Wassail Sunday 3 January - route and times

On Sunday 3 January the village Wassail will be visiting new orchards. We will be lighting the procession with fire torches so you won't get lost along the way this year.

We are pleased to welcome back Armaleggan the fantastic Border Dancers with their masked faces and elaborate costumes.

Our procession will start in front of the Red Lion at 3.25 pm. The first Wassail will be in the secret orchard behind Sotwell House. Join in the curious fun.  We need to drive away the evil spirits in each orchard, welcome the good spirits and toast the trees.  There needs to be lots of noise to drive away the evil ones so make sure you bring your pots and pans and whistles and bells.

We then process to Sotwell House for our first dance.

Next the procession leads down to the Community Orchard to Wassail once again but there will also be a traditional Mummers play written especially for Brightwell.

The next dance in the pub car park is for the children of all ages to enjoy; it really is good fun dancing with Armaleggan.

Finally, we will be Wassailing the Vine House orchard where we will let off the finale firework followed by free mulled apple juice and cider in the pub.
