Fantastic day

With the sunshine so many villagers turned out to plant trees.  It seems as if the idea of planting a tree was so simple that people instinctively wanted to join in.

We even had a rush! so much so that by midday all the 45 trees had been allocated even though more people were arriving hoping to plant.

The first tree was planted by Ron Wood (95) and Thomas Colam (10). Ron is born and bred in the village and remembers the two villages when they were just continuous orchards.  He remembers this site when it was all allotments and climbing trees and scrumping apples around the village. Hopefully Thomas and his friends will look after the orchard for the decades to come.
