and now plans for Wassailing this winter

After celebrating the harvest at Apple Day, the next thing to do is prepare to protect the trees through the long winter, ward off evil spirits and drink to the health of the trees at Wassail on Twelfth Night Sunday 5 January.

To ward off the evil spirits from the trees we need to make lots of noise so everyone will be banging pots and pans and drums as they process from orchard to orchard around the village. We will be singing a traditional wassailing song and the trees will be lit up by lights and lanterns.
